What can I say? It’s been that kind of day!
The first full week in May is “Clean-up Week” in the three towns of which ours is central, and we spent the past few days assembling junk and stuff to put out on the boulevard for townsfolk and the disposal folks to haul away. Between myself and Al, we’ve gotten rid of upwards of 600 books at minimum. Also ready to be taken away are the Great Books of the Western World. Favorites can be bought as ebooks, mostly, and the hardcover edition passed on. I’ve kept the Great Ideas Today volumes since I first bought the GB set (mid-70s), because I have not had time to go through them all.
All in all, mixing external realities with playful what-ifs has been the stuff of life, whether disasters or exuberance, keeping things in perspective. We are not limited to a 1:1 experience of the reality that seems to exist before us. Just watch the puppies, tossing their toys, then chasing and “killing” them time after time. And then curling up with them to take a nap.
