Writing prompt: Mara Eastern’s
Poetry 101 Rehab: Habit
“Habit Is Costuming”
Habit yourself as meets your purpose
or comfort or pleasure for the moment.
Clothing is, my grandmother said,
costuming only, chosen by need
and not to be dictated by custom
or prejudice or whim of others
to bind you for their taste or use.
The brightly colored habit draws the eye,
dull colors slide their eyes away, and so
habit yourself for power or stealth.
Clothing is costuming only. It will
fit your purpose, bring you to your goal,
if only your habit be more costumary.

I got a late start on the Poetry 101 Rehab prompts, and so I am catching up, this week.
